Rev. Terry M. Turner is a native of Guthrie, Oklahoma. He attended Guthrie Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1975. He later graduated from Langston University in 1979 with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. In his senior year of college, he accepted his call into the ministry. He served the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Guthrie, OK as an assistant to the pastor in 1981 and as pastor from 1982 through 1989. Pastor Turner began his formal training for ministry in 1981 at The King is Coming Bible Institute, Oklahoma City, OK, receiving a Certificate in Christian Work in 1983 and a Diploma in Theology in 1985. In 1989, he continued his training for ministry at Dallas Theological Seminary, earning Masters Degrees in Biblical Studies (1991) and Christian Education (1995). He has been listed as an honored professional in the national register Who’s Who Executive and Professionals 2002 edition. He served as a executive Board Member of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention from 2002 -2010, and has represented the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention on the Committee of Committees at the Southern Baptist Convention in 2009 and 2011. Pastor Turner currently also serves as President of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention African American Fellowship and as a Trustee of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley (San Francisco), California.
After graduation From Dallas Theological Seminary in 1991, Pastor Turner organized and planted the Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church with five families as a core group; the church has now grown to over 2,100 members. He also organized The Biblical Truth Ministries radio & tv broadcast. He has been married for 29 years to Nancy; they have three children, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
President Turner was elected by the messengers of the 14th annual meeting of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention in Irving on November 15, 2011.
