Christmas Presence

Luke 10:38–42

December has arrived and with it comes the whirlwind of the Christmas season: gifts, office parties, decorations, church programs, school performances, classroom celebrations, lights, shopping, carols, candy canes, and perhaps even a dreaded family gathering. For many, this season brings more stress than joy. The mere thought of navigating it all can feel overwhelming.

Though Jesus never commanded us to celebrate His birthday, we do so out of love—just as we honor the lives of our family and friends on their birthdays. He is our peace, the Prince of Peace, and He desires to dwell in the hearts of all who believe and trust in Him.

So how can we approach this season differently? How can we quiet the noise and focus our hearts and minds on the one who brings true peace?

Five Intentional Ways to Embrace His Presence

  1. Prioritize Daily Fellowship with the Lord
Set aside time each day to be alone with God—free from distractions. Engage in worship, prayer, and Scripture reading. Isaiah 26:3 promises us, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Peace begins with the presence of God in our lives.
  2. Build a Schedule with Eternal Purpose
Let your calendar reflect what matters most. In Luke 10, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, fully present. Martha, though well-meaning, was distracted by her tasks. If your heart has already surrendered to the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, pause. Shift your focus from a clean home to a clean heart.
  3. Protect Time with Loved Ones
Make space for those closest to you—your family, parents, and trusted friends. It’s okay to say “no” to commitments that drain your energy or distract from what’s truly important. When we allow others to dictate our time, we risk arriving at Christmas Day exhausted and disconnected.
  4. Share the Story of Jesus Together
Read an Advent devotional with your family. Many are available online at no cost. Christmas is the greatest story ever told—take time to reflect on the birth of Jesus, His love, power, faithfulness, and the salvation He offers to all.
  5. Serve and Give with Intention
You are never more like Jesus than when you serve and give. Use your time, talents, and treasure to bless others. Scripture consistently calls us to serve, and the Christmas season offers countless opportunities to extend compassion to those in need.

As you journey through this season, consider making your present to Jesus your presence—with an abiding, undivided heart. Remove the distractions. Rest in his peace. For He truly is the Prince of Peace.
